Windows 11 KB5120998 update resets desktop settings, wallpaper turns black

Microsoft says the August 27, 2026 Windows 11 preview update KB5120998 can cause desktop settings to fail to load, making wallpapers display as solid black and potentially resetting themes, slideshow, and other display preferences on devices running 24H2 and 25H2. Affected users may be unable to restore their custom settings, and the issue affects the optional, non-security update; if the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option is enabled, it can install automatically.

iOS 27 Quietly Shrinks the Lock Screen Clock to Let Wallpapers Shine

Enable by long-pressing the Lock Screen > Customize > clock frame > the two-bar icon to switch to compact mode (tap again to revert). Your existing font, weight, and color choices stay, but the Liquid Glass slider isn’t available in compact mode. Pixel Could Get iPhone-Style Photo Shuffle Wallpaper Feature

Google appears to be testing an iPhone-like Photo Shuffle wallpaper feature for Pixel devices in the Android 17 QPR1 beta 5. The feature would let users assemble an album of images (friends, pets, etc.) and have the wallpaper automatically shuffle at set intervals—hourly, daily, at sunrise/sunset—or on tap, bringing more control than the current Pixel shuffle options and potentially reducing reliance on third‑party apps.
