DC-area flights delayed as FAA TRACON outage triggers ground stop
Three Washington, DC-area airports faced hours-long delays after a ground stop was issued when the Potomac TRACON air-traffic-control center in Warrenton experienced an equipment outage tied to an overheated circuit board and a strong chemical smell; emergency responders and a hazmat team investigated, and the circuit board was replaced. Ground stops extended to Richmond, Charlottesville, and Manassas, causing hundreds of cancellations and long waits at Reagan National, Dulles, and Baltimore/Washington. Reagan National saw about 3+ hours of delays with numerous cancellations, while delays gradually eased to around 90 minutes later in the evening as airports worked to recover.
