Suspect Charged in Widdecombe Murder as Motive Probed

A 28-year-old man, Joshua Kerry of Rotherham, has been charged with the murder of former Conservative minister Ann Widdecombe and will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court. Counter Terrorism Policing say determining the motive, including any political motive, remains an active line of inquiry; Kerry was initially arrested on suspicion of murder and later on suspicion of terrorism-related offenses. Widdecombe, 78, was found dead at her Devon home on July 9 with serious injuries. The investigation is ongoing and not seeking others in connection with the case, with tributes paid by political figures.

Former pop star Gary Glitter (Paul Gadd) has been charged with four historical sexual offences dating from 1978–1981: one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14, alleged to have taken place at a Kensington address with one identified victim. He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 5 August. The charges follow a January 2025 Met report; Glitter was interviewed in July 2025 and remains in custody at HMP Channings Wood. CPS London says there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest to proceed.

Gary Glitter, the former pop singer and convicted sex offender, has been charged with four historic offenses dating from 1978–1981 involving a girl under 13. Man denies threats against Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor near Sandringham Estate

Alex Jenkinson, 39, denies two counts of threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour toward Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor near the Sandringham Estate, and also pleads guilty to failing to provide a blood sample in custody. He was released on conditional bail with restrictions including staying out of Norfolk and not contacting or approaching Mountbatten-Windsor or royal estates. Mountbatten-Windsor is expected to give evidence via remote link at a July 29 trial at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

Gabrielle Carrington, 29, of Manchester, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court charged with attempted murder, grievous bodily harm with intent and related offences after a car struck pedestrians on Argyll Street in Soho, injuring several people including a security guard with life-changing injuries; she was remanded in custody with a next hearing set for 19 May at the Old Bailey. Her blood-alcohol level was 61 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath, well above the 35 mcg/100ml limit.
