Galactic Collision Imminent: Black Hole's Path Revealed by Space-Time Ripples

Astrophysicists have detected gravitational waves from merging supermassive black holes, revealing that hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of these cosmic structures are merging throughout the universe. The findings confirm that the black hole at the center of our galaxy, Sagittarius A*, will eventually merge with the black hole at the heart of the Andromeda galaxy when the two galaxies collide in about 4.5 billion years. This merger will result in the formation of a binary system at the center of the newly combined galaxy. The research provides insights into the growth of black holes and the frequency of galaxy mergers.
