Ancient African relatives of T. rex unveil dinosaur era's demise

Fossils of two new dinosaur species, primitive cousins of T. rex, have been discovered in Morocco, shedding light on the diverse dinosaur fauna in Africa just before their mass extinction 66 million years ago. These abelisaurid dinosaurs lived at the end of the Cretaceous period and were found in marine beds, alongside other marine reptiles. The discovery suggests that dinosaurs thrived in North Africa until the very end, challenging the notion of a decline in dinosaur diversity before the asteroid impact.
