Impending Solar Storm Threatens Earth as NASA Detects Ring-Shaped Sunspot

A giant cloud of coronal mass ejection (CME) is approaching Earth and could cause a solar storm event today, April 5. The CME was released from the Sun on March 30 and is expected to deliver glancing blows to the Earth, resulting in minor geomagnetic storms and Arctic auroras. However, another new sunspot, named AR3270, has been detected and could explode in the days to come, causing radio blackouts, GPS disruptions, and another bout of geomagnetic storm. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory is monitoring the situation.
