"Midwest and Southern US Brace for Northern Lights as Severe Solar Storm Approaches"

A "severe" solar storm hit Earth on Sunday, causing parts of the nation to be able to see the aurora borealis, with the potential for the northern lights to be visible as far south as northern Illinois and central Iowa. The NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center warned of a G4 geomagnetic storm, advising the public to stay informed but not anticipate adverse impacts. The storm, caused by a coronal mass ejection from the sun, is expected to continue through Monday.
