"NASA's Protocols for Alerting Public of Apocalyptic Asteroid Threat"

NASA has a plan in place to alert the public in the event of an impending hazardous asteroid strike, working with a global coalition of astronomers to find and track dangerous asteroids. The International Asteroid Warning Network (IAWN) would notify the public if a dangerous asteroid is headed toward Earth, and NASA would send out an alert if the threat was serious. NASA's Planetary Defense Coordination Office is tasked with finding, tracking, and assessing the risk associated with potentially hazardous asteroids in our solar system, and has launched a planetary defense test mission to shift an asteroid's orbit away from Earth.
