NOAA Warns of Potential Geomagnetic Storm on May 26

NOAA has warned of a potential minor geomagnetic storm on May 26th due to a coronal mass ejection (CME) from a filament eruption on May 23rd. While G1-class storms are typically mild, they can still impact satellites and power grids. This follows the strongest solar storm in over two decades on May 10th, which affected satellite services like Starlink. The Sun is currently nearing its solar maximum, a period of heightened solar activity that occurs approximately every 11 years.
