NASA is deploying tiny cameras on the Nova-C lander to capture imagery of the Moon's surface as the spacecraft descends, aiming to understand how the surface changes from interactions with the lander's engine plume. The Stereo Cameras for Lunar Plume-Surface Studies (SCALPSS) will provide valuable data for future missions to the Moon and beyond, helping scientists and engineers predict the effects of landings and protect assets on the lunar surface. This initiative is part of NASA's collaboration with commercial and international partners to establish a long-term presence on the Moon under the Artemis program.
