NASA Hosts Discussion on High-Rate Laser Comms Demo and Space Station Science

NASA will host a media teleconference to discuss a laser communications system and new research on weather interactions between Earth and space. These investigations are part of the research and technology experiments that will be sent to the International Space Station next month on SpaceX's 29th commercial resupply services mission. The mission will carry scientific research, technology demonstrations, crew supplies, and hardware to support the space station's Expedition 70 crew. The teleconference will provide an overview of the research and technology launching aboard the Dragon spacecraft, including the Integrated Laser Communications Relay Demonstration Low Earth Orbit User Modem and Amplifier Terminal (ILLUMA-T) and the Atmospheric Waves Experiment (AWE). ILLUMA-T aims to test high data rate laser communications, while AWE will measure atmospheric gravity waves and their impact on space weather.
