"First-Ever Detection of Water on Asteroid Surfaces by NASA Mission"

Scientists have detected water on the surface of two asteroids for the first time, using data from the retired Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy. The discovery, made possible by a NASA mission retired in 2022, could provide insight into the distribution and evolution of materials in space, as well as the origins of water on Earth. The findings also suggest that water can be bound to minerals or other materials on asteroids and other solar bodies, and researchers plan to expand their investigation to 30 more targets using the James Webb Space Telescope.
