TL;DR

NASA has successfully restored communications with the Voyager 1 spacecraft after a power-related issue caused it to switch to a low-power transmitter, rendering it silent. Now 47 years old and 15.4 billion miles from Earth, Voyager 1 continues to operate four instruments despite dwindling power from its decaying plutonium source. This incident highlights the fragility of the aging spacecraft, which, along with its twin Voyager 2, has surpassed expectations by continuing to explore interstellar space.
