NASA's Giant Robot Snake to Explore Icy Moon of Saturn and Other Planets

NASA is testing an all-terrain slithering robot called EELS to explore tunnels, glaciers, and snowdrifts on Saturn’s icy moon of Enceladus, which is believed to have a subsurface ocean of liquid water and could be one of the best places to look for signs of extraterrestrial life. The 13-foot-long robot is designed to navigate through undulating sand and ice, steep cliffs, gaping craters, underground lava tubes, and narrow spaces within glaciers. EELS is being tested on Earth and will take 12 years to reach Enceladus.
