"Perseverance Rover Captures Epic Martian Solar Eclipse with Phobos"

NASA's Perseverance rover captured a video of the Martian moon Phobos crossing in front of the sun on Feb. 8, 2024. The footage, consisting of 68 images, was taken using the rover's Mastcam-Z camera. Phobos, one of Mars' moons, is of interest to scientists due to its enigmatic formation history. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) plans to send the Martian Moons Exploration (MMX) mission to Phobos in 2026 to collect dust samples. Additionally, NASA and the European Space Agency plan to send a Mars sample return mission to the rover's area in the 2030s.
