United jet's Newark landing hits Turnpike pole and tractor-trailer
A United Airlines Boeing 767 landing at Newark Liberty International Airport struck a light pole on the New Jersey Turnpike and a tractor-trailer (the pole also hit a Jeep); the tractor-trailer driver sustained minor injuries and was released from the hospital. The aircraft sustained minor damage but landed safely with 231 people aboard, and United removed the crew from service for a safety investigation. A separate United incident involving an unruly passenger occurred the previous day.
