117 dog remains found at California rescue amid abuse probe
California authorities uncovered at least 117 dogs buried on the property of Miranda’s Rescue in Fortuna as part of an ongoing fraud and abuse investigation. The remains were found at two sites during searches authorized by a warrant, with initial on-site exams by forensic veterinarians noting bullet fragments in many animals. About 71 bodies were examined on-site with 46 others not yet reached; some remains were too degraded to recover. No charges have been announced, and investigators warn the process will be lengthy as they identify dogs (including microchip checks) and pursue accountability.
