Researchers at ETH Zurich have trained the four-legged robot dog ANYmal to play badminton using AI-driven prediction models and advanced control systems, demonstrating significant progress in robotic agility and real-time physical skills with potential applications in disaster response and industrial assistance.
Scientists have trained a four-legged robot named 'ANYmal' to play badminton against humans using AI, visual perception, and reinforcement learning, demonstrating advanced coordination and adaptability in dynamic sports scenarios.
Serious badminton players have developed a highly effective spin serve, which was banned by the BWF in 2023 due to concerns over unfair advantage. Chinese physicists have analyzed the complex physics behind the spin serve, focusing on the unique aerodynamics and feather geometry of shuttlecocks, which influence their speed, stability, and spin during play.
A new study suggests that racket sports like tennis and badminton may be more beneficial for longevity and overall health than traditional exercises like running and swimming, with tennis potentially adding up to 9.7 years of life expectancy due to their high activity levels and bone-strengthening motions.
Research shows that playing racket sports like tennis and badminton can significantly increase life expectancy, reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, and provide a full-body workout, making them an excellent choice for a long, healthy life.
Welsh company Space Forge has designed a heat shield called Pridwen, inspired by the shuttlecock used in badminton, which can be folded before launch and then expanded into a shuttlecock-like shape once ready for re-entry. The heat shield is intended for returning materials from the Moon or from asteroids, or for landing spacecrafts on celestial bodies with atmospheres like Mars or Venus. Space Forge hopes to see a space flight using Pridwen before the close of 2023.
