Lab-Grown Bladder Models Reveal How E. coli Survives Antibiotics in Tissue
New research using 3D human bladder models shows that E. coli bacteria can survive antibiotic treatment by hiding in deeper tissue layers. This 'persister' state explains why urinary tract infections (UTIs) often recur despite successful initial treatment. The findings suggest that urine tests may miss bacteria embedded in the bladder wall, challenging current diagnostic and treatment approaches for recurrent infections.
