Microsoft and Paige Join Forces to Develop World's Largest Cancer-Detecting AI Model
Microsoft is partnering with digital pathology provider Paige to develop the world's largest image-based artificial intelligence (AI) model for identifying cancer. The AI model, trained on billions of images, aims to detect both common and rare cancers, helping doctors cope with staffing shortages and growing caseloads. Paige, which has FDA approval for its AI tool, has been working to digitize the pathologists' workflow to improve accuracy and efficiency. The collaboration with Microsoft will enable Paige to build an advanced AI model that is "orders of magnitude larger than anything out there." The model, currently training on 4 million slides, is expected to revolutionize cancer care and democratize access to healthcare.
