US Eyes Direct Ownership of Venezuelan Oil Fields
US officials are in talks to acquire direct American ownership stakes in Venezuela’s oil fields totaling about 90 billion barrels, a decisive tilt of Washington’s Energy Dominance policy toward direct equity in Western Hemisphere assets. The plan envisions private firms developing the fields with revenues partly returned to Caracas, but would require roughly $180 billion in capex over the next decade and faces infrastructure and legal hurdles; short-term gains are likely incremental, with Energy Secretary Chris Wright set to visit Caracas to discuss logistics.
