Grocery-delivery worker lands last Open spot at Royal Birkdale
Joe Dean, a 32-year-old Englishman who once delivered groceries to fund his golf career, won the inaugural Last Chance Qualifier at Royal Birkdale with a 2-under 68 to earn the final berth in The Open, finishing one shot ahead of Andrew Wilson while Aldrich Potgieter stayed two behind as the first alternate. This will be Dean’s third Open appearance, and he’ll be married on Tuesday as he heads to the championship.
