"Google's ANC Earbuds Transformed into Heart Rate Sensors"

Google has revealed its research into using audioplethysmography (APG) to add heart rate sensing capabilities to active noise canceling (ANC) headphones and earbuds through a simple software upgrade. By sending a low intensity ultrasound probing signal through the speakers, the ear canal's deep artery can be used to measure heart rate and heart rate variability. Google's studies found that APG achieves consistently accurate heart rate and heart rate variability measurements, regardless of skin tones or ear canal size. This approach eliminates the need for additional hardware and offers new possibilities for low-cost health sensing. However, it is uncertain if this technology will be implemented in Pixel Buds.

Samsung Display showcases innovative rollable and health-sensing OLED technology.

Samsung Display has unveiled two new OLED panels at the annual Display Week trade show in Los Angeles. The Rollable Flex is a flexible screen that can be unrolled from 49mm to 254.4mm, while the Sensor OLED Display offers fingerprint and blood pressure sensing in the OLED panel without the need for a separate module. The Sensor OLED Display can also measure a person’s heart rate, blood pressure and stress level from their fingers. These features could be incorporated into future smartphones.
