PlayStation 5 system software update 14.0 is live, and its main change is making Enhanced PSSR Image Quality the default on PS5 Pro for crisper visuals—even for older PSSR games—while base PS5 gets minor tweaks; the update auto-downloads and can be installed manually, with some regional Bluetooth/rest-mode caveats.
Sony's FE 8-14mm f/3.5 G is a compact full-frame fisheye zoom that offers two usable looks—8mm circular and 14mm rectilinear—with fast autofocus, sharp detail, strong flare control, and a rugged build. It includes features like a focus-hold, de-clickable/lockable aperture, a Zoom Lock, and weather sealing, making it a modern, highly capable option for fisheye enthusiasts and action shooters, though at $1,600 it’s pricey and the 8mm corners can be slightly soft wide open; for non-fisheye work or cheaper alternatives, Laowa’s 8-15mm remains a contender without AF.
The article argues that the smart TV processor is often the most important spec, affecting upscaling, image quality, noise reduction, and even gaming and app performance. It recommends prioritizing brand-name processors (LG Alpha, Samsung NQ, Sony) and testing in-store for smooth menus and fast app loading, while also checking reviews for real-world upscaling performance.
A new test shows Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on PS5 Pro benefits from the PS4 version’s enhanced image quality feature, making the PS4 port appear crisper than the native PS5 version, though the PS5 version still edges it out in shadows and latency between builds seems negligible; for base PS5 players, the native PS5 version remains the safer choice.
RTINGS notes Hisense excels at entry-to-mid range, but TCL provides a more consistent, safer overall budget-TV option with uniform brightness scaling and predictable picture across sizes. Both brands use Google TV and support Dolby Vision/HDR10+, with TCL sometimes benefiting from Bang & Olufsen audio tuning in specific models. Overall, TCL has a slight edge for most buyers, though the best pick depends on room and use case.
The Camp Snap is a $70 pocket camera that leans into disposable-camera nostalgia with a screen-free, ultra-simple design; it offers a removable microSD card, a tiny monochrome LCD, and a PC-based filter system, but image quality is mediocre and it lacks wireless connectivity or on-device controls, making it more of a style play than a practical camera—easy to use but outclassed by pricier rivals like the Flashback.
Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra introduces a first-of-its-kind built-in privacy display that hides screen content from side views and offers customizable privacy options. Early user feedback, however, points to eye strain even without privacy mode, and notable drops in clarity, contrast, and color when privacy mode is active, plus a downgraded anti-glare coating compared with the S25 Ultra. The feature remains innovative but currently plagued by display drawbacks, with more in-depth reviews anticipated.
Digital Foundry finds the Switch 2 port of Resident Evil Requiem uses DLSS to upscale a 540p base to 1080p, yielding image quality that often surpasses the Series S native 720p. However, the port runs with an unlocked, variable frame-rate (roughly 30–60fps docked, lower in handheld) and includes some visual downgrades (hair, textures). Despite these compromises, core visuals are preserved and DLSS is the standout feature driving the port’s success.
Valerion's VisionMaster Max delivers cinema-grade image quality with a triple-laser RGB light source, dynamic iris/Enhanced Black Level, and broad HDR support, plus strong gaming performance and easy setup. However, at roughly $4,000–$5,000 it’s hard to justify for most buyers when competing with the VisionMaster Pro2, Nebula X1, and XGIMI Horizon 20 Max, making it a niche luxury option rather than a everyday upgrade.
The PS5 Pro does not offer performance improvements over the base PS5 for The Outer Worlds 2, with issues like image quality degradation, frame pacing, and screen tearing, making it a poor choice for playing the game at launch, despite the game's overall positive reception.
Samsung has introduced the ISOCELL HP5, a smaller yet advanced 200MP camera sensor for smartphones, featuring new technologies that enhance image and video quality, especially in low-light conditions. It offers in-sensor zoom, high dynamic range, and supports high-resolution video recording, with potential use in upcoming smartphones like the OPPO Find X9 Pro and other Chinese brands.
The article compares four popular AI image generators—Gemini, ChatGPT, Grok, and Microsoft Copilot—by testing their ability to create images from various prompts, revealing strengths and weaknesses in realism, layout, creativity, and handling of complex details, with Gemini often producing the most detailed and aesthetically pleasing results.
NVIDIA's GeForce NOW will upgrade to RTX 5080 GPUs in September, offering 5K streaming at high frame rates, improved image quality with Cinematic Quality Streaming, and expanded game support, making cloud gaming more powerful and accessible across devices, with tiered pricing options.
Cheap digital microscopes, like the Tomlov DM9, often overstate their capabilities, especially in magnification and image quality, due to fundamental physics limitations. They have small sensors and limited depth of field, making their images less detailed compared to higher-end macro lenses on larger sensors. While they may be sufficient for casual use, their performance is significantly inferior to more expensive equipment, and their advertised specifications can be misleading.
Donkey Kong Bananza on the Nintendo Switch 2 uses AMD FSR 1 instead of NVIDIA DLSS, resulting in softer image quality and some performance drops, especially in docked mode, though handheld mode offers better performance and image clarity.
