A budget-smartphone round-up for 2026 highlights five strong options: the iPhone 17e ($599) offers Apple ecosystem benefits with solid battery but camera/display aren’t top-tier; the Google Pixel 10a ($499) keeps solid camera quality and a refined design; the Samsung Galaxy A57 5G ($549.99) provides good display and battery at a lower price but has Wi‑Fi and biometric trade-offs; the Nothing Phone 4a Pro ($499) emphasizes display and design with a big 6.8-inch OLED and 144Hz refresh rate; and the OnePlus 15R ($699) delivers flagship-like gaming performance and a 165Hz screen, though cameras and mmWave 5G are not its strongest points. Overall, these choices offer strong value without reaching flagship price levels.
T-Mobile is rolling out new promos: switchers can get the iPhone 17e for free with no trade-in, and a Galaxy S26 can be free with a line on the Experience More plan. Other offers include up to $1,100 off the iPhone 17 Pro with a trade-in, up to $900 off the Galaxy S26+ with trade-in, and up to $800 toward paying off an old device when switching.
Samsung's Galaxy S26 Ultra and Apple's iPhone 17e are driving a rare US sales uptick in Q1 2026, with the Ultra accounting for about 71% of the S26 family’s US sales in the first three weeks and the 17e attracting 15% more demand than its predecessor; despite a weak global market, the US shows resilience as both brands post strong early momentum, though full quarterly totals remain uncertain.
Verge’s budget-phone guide highlights the iPhone 17E as the best cheap iPhone and points to the Google Pixel 10A (with Nothing Phone 4A Pro as a strong Android alternative) as standout options, delivering solid performance, long software support, MagSafe on the iPhone, and good value for under $600.
The Guardian’s iPhone 17e review finds Apple’s cheapest new iPhone upgraded with the faster A19 chip and 256–512GB storage, MagSafe and USB‑C, a 6.1-inch OLED screen, and strong battery life (~52 hours), all in a familiar iPhone 14‑style body with a single 48MP rear camera; it lacks ultrawide/telephoto, wifi 7, Thread and UWB, making it a solid budget option for Apple basics at £599 but not ideal for photography enthusiasts.
Apple wrapped March with more than 10 new products and accessories, including iPhone 17e with A19 and MagSafe, iPad Air with M4, MacBook Air and Pro upgrades (M4/M5) plus the all-new MacBook Neo, two Studio Displays (standard with Thunderbolt 5 and XDR with 120Hz) and AirPods Max 2 and Nike Powerbeats Pro 2. The lineup also adds new cases, bands, and a Crossbody Strap; AirPods Max 2 go up for pre-order March 25, MacBook Neo starts at $599 in the US, and several devices gain Wi‑Fi 7/Bluetooth 6 and faster storage.
Three midrange smartphones—iPhone 17e, Pixel 10a, and Galaxy A56—are compared for value, display, performance, and ecosystem. Pixel 10a offers the best bang for the buck and a sharp display, iPhone 17e delivers top performance and MagSafe compatibility, and Galaxy A56 provides a strong camera and highly customizable software. The writer’s pick is the iPhone 17e, though all are solid choices; prices span roughly $499–$799.

Engadget’s latest review roundup highlights Apple’s budget-friendly MacBook Neo and iPhone 17e, Samsung’s Galaxy S26, and Dell’s premium XPS 16 (2026). The MacBook Neo scores high for design and brightness but is held back by only 8GB of RAM and limited storage; the iPhone 17e offers solid entry-level iOS with improved Portrait photography and MagSafe, though its display feels dated; the Galaxy S26 is a strong but conservative upgrade with a larger battery and AI features but few headline changes from its predecessor; and the XPS 16 earns praise for its exquisite design, OLED screen, and robust performance, despite a steep price and some tradeoffs like keyboard feel and lack of an SD card reader. The roundup also touches on other gadgets, including the Nothing Phone 4a Pro and Belkin’s Switch 2 charging case.
Apple’s new iPhone 17e sits below the iPhone 16 in price while delivering a newer A19 chip and solid battery life, but it sacrifices features like Dynamic Island, Ultra Wide camera, and newer connectivity. The iPhone 17e starts at $599 and offers more storage, whereas the iPhone 16 starts at $699 and brings a brighter display, broader camera options, and full feature set (Wi‑Fi 7, Thread, mmWave). The choice boils down to budget and value (17e) versus a more complete feature/camera package (16).
Apple's low-cost iPhone 17e with the A19 chip outperforms the budget MacBook Neo powered by the A18 Pro in Geekbench CPU benchmarks, while GPU scores are similar. Both devices have 8GB RAM; the Neo is Apple’s first A-series Mac, raising questions about its macOS performance and market fit.
Apple capped a three‑day hardware blitz with seven launches: the budget $599 MacBook Neo powered by the A18 Pro; the $599 iPhone 17e with the A19; new MacBook Pro models built on a first‑of‑its‑kind Fusion Architecture that bonds two 3nm dies; Studio Display XDR and a revised Studio Display; the iPad Air refreshed with the M4 chip, 12GB RAM, Wi‑Fi 7 and a C1X modem; and a refreshed MacBook Air with the M5 and 512GB base storage, along with price bumps across the lineup (Neo and 17e from $599; Studio Display XDR from $3,299; Studio Display from $1,599; Air from $1,099/$1,299).
Apple revealed a wave of new devices, led by the budget MacBook Neo at $599 and a MacBook Air M5 starting at $1,099, along with the iPhone 17e (MagSafe and 256GB) and iPad Air M4; pre-orders are live ahead of the March 11 sale, with higher-end models offering more RAM, storage, and AI-focused enhancements.
Geekbench 6 benchmarks show the iPhone 17e uses the A19 chip and posts nearly identical multi-core CPU scores to the iPhone 17 (9,241 vs 9,249), but with a 4-core GPU resulting in lower graphics performance (roughly 31k–31.5k Metal scores vs ~37k on the iPhone 17); the 17e adds MagSafe, a second-gen C1X modem, and 256GB base storage, starts at $599, with pre-orders beginning March 4 and the launch on March 11.
