
SteamOS 3.8 Expands Handheld Support and Desktop Enhancements
SteamOS 3.8 lands in stable with broader handheld compatibility and desktop-mode refinements, upgrading KDE Plasma to 6.4.3 and switching to Wayland by default, adding HDMI 2.1/VRR support, and improving video memory management and drivers for discrete GPUs; it also introduces an optional LAVD CPU scheduler, initial Steam Machine support, and broad compatibility gains for popular handhelds and upcoming Intel/AMD platforms, along with desktop/game-mode performance fixes and Bluetooth wake improvements on Steam Deck LCD models.
