Apple Watch's Always-On AI Tests Privacy Rules and Eavesdropping Laws
Apple unveiled Siri Recap and Live Rewind for the Apple Watch to summarize and transcribe recent conversations, with on-device processing and no audio storage, but legal experts warn the “always-on” features could violate eavesdropping or all-party-consent laws in several states, potentially creating a first-of-its-kind test for ambient AI privacy. Apple says it isn’t recording and includes safeguards, and users can disable the features or limit when they’re active, but observers say the technology may outpace current law.
