
Dozens Feared Dead as Guyana Ferry Capsizes Off Port Kaituma
A passenger ferry carrying 133 people capsized off Guyana’s coast, with dozens feared dead. Authorities reported 67 rescues (including 15 children) and the captain and several crew members in police custody amid findings of a possibly inaccurate manifest and marijuana use by crew. The MV Barima was traveling from Georgetown to Port Kaituma when it capsized about seven miles offshore. Rescue efforts have expanded over a large search area, with divers and oil/gas vessels assisting in the ongoing operation.
