NAD+ Supplements May Shield Pancreatic Cancer Cells from Chemotherapy
A new study from Case Western Reserve University warns that popular over-the-counter NAD+ boosting supplements, including NMN, NR, and NAM, may help pancreatic cancer cells survive chemotherapy. The research, published in Cancer Letters, found that these vitamin B3 derivatives provide cancer cells with the energy needed to repair DNA damage caused by drugs like oxaliplatin, 5-fluorouracil, and gemcitabine. While safe for healthy individuals, these supplements could undermine treatment efficacy for patients undergoing active cancer therapy. Researchers urge oncologists to screen patients for supplement use and advise patients to consult their doctors before taking such products during treatment.
