According to the dashboard, an object larger than 150 meters approaching Earth within this distance is considered a potentially hazardous object. Two asteroids, including one approximately the size of a house, are set for close approaches on January 23.

The asteroid falls under the category of a "potentially hazardous object" and even a slight alteration in its trajectory caused by the gravitational pull of a planet could redirect it towards our planet, resulting in a catastrophic impact. NASA uses various technologies, such as telescopes and satellites, to monitor these asteroids and maintain a catalogue of near-Earth objects that are expected to have close encounters with our planet, allowing for the early detection of any potential hazards.

Giant asteroid set to pass dangerously close to Earth.

Asteroid 1994 XD, which is classified as a Potentially Hazardous Object, will pass by Earth next week, coming as close as 19.2 million miles. The asteroid is between 1,214 to 2,723 feet in diameter and is traveling at 77,301 kilometers per hour. While it poses no risk to our planet, more than a dozen objects with close approaches to Earth are being tracked by NASA's Center for Near Earth Object Studies. Last year, NASA carried out the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission, successfully altering the orbit of a small asteroid.
