Netflix is reportedly testing a feature that adds a unique email to each profile within a shared account, enabling independent sign-ins, account recovery, and personalized recommendations, with rollout appearing gradual and potentially signaling tighter control of shared accounts after past password-sharing crackdowns.
Microsoft issued an optional out-of-band update (KB5085516) to fix a sign-in outage for Microsoft accounts across Teams, OneDrive, Edge, Office apps and more that surfaced after the KB5079473 patch; Entra ID/Azure AD users are not affected. Microsoft released the Windows 11 KB5074105 optional preview update to fix boot, sign-in, and activation issues, adding about 32 changes. It updates 25H2 and 24H2 devices to builds 26200.7705 and 26100.7705, respectively, and brings features like expanded Cross-Device Resume and Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security for peripheral fingerprint sensors, along with fixes for Windows Terminal elevation from non-admin accounts, dxgmms2.sys-related kernel errors, and Windows Sandbox startup.
Apple has introduced Passkeys in iOS 16 and now with iOS 17, users can sign in to their Apple accounts without a password. Passkeys are automatically generated for Apple IDs and can be used to log in to iCloud and Apple websites. Users can authenticate their login using Face ID or Touch ID, eliminating the need to enter a password. Passkeys are more secure, faster, and resistant to phishing, and are governed by FIDO Alliance and W3 standards.
