Pentagon Deploys Media Critique Over USS Lincoln Reports
After Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth labeled reporting on the USS Abraham Lincoln as “completely misrepresented,” at least six senior Pentagon and Navy officials amplified a coordinated critique of the coverage across X and Facebook, branding some reporting as false or misinformed. Journalist Natalie Oliverio’s accounts of dire conditions aboard the Lincoln spurred national coverage, while CENTCOM and Navy spokespeople defended the crew and suggested some reporting was distorted. Pentagon data or FOIA records were not provided in response to requests. Analysts warn the messaging campaign could undermine public trust in the press and harm military morale and recruitment.
