China’s LandSpace nails first land-based booster recovery on Zhuque-3 in second orbital flight

Private Chinese firm LandSpace successfully recovered the first stage of its Zhuque-3 rocket on land during its second orbital flight, marking China’s first private company to achieve an orbital-stage booster landing on solid ground. The mission also delivered the Honghu 03 satellite to orbit, underscoring China’s push toward reusable launch technology and drawing a parallel to SpaceX’s landings, with Zhuque-3 using a methalox propulsion similar to Falcon 9's approach.

LandSpace bets on Aug. 10 for Zhuque-3 orbital booster landing

China’s LandSpace is targeting Aug. 10 for a fourth attempt to recover the Zhuque-3 orbital booster from Jiuquan spaceport. After its 2025 debut, which reached orbit but saw the first stage explode on descent, a June 29 static-fire test validated the vehicle ahead of flight. Zhuque-3 is a 66-meter methane–oxygen rocket capable of delivering about 18,300 kg to LEO, and the mission will pursue a powered descent and landing similar to Falcon 9, continuing China’s evolving rocket-reusability efforts alongside other booster tests like Long March 10B/12A.

China prepares for maiden flight of reusable Zhuque-3 rocket

Landspace is preparing for China's first orbital launch and potential first-stage recovery of its Zhuque-3 rocket, which aims to deliver cargo to the Tiangong space station. The launch, possibly in November, marks a significant step for China's private space sector and reusable rocket technology, following a series of test preparations and previous rocket failures.

"Chinese Startup Landspace Achieves Milestone with Reusable Rocket Test"

Chinese startup Landspace successfully launched and landed a test version of its reusable rocket prototype, Zhuque-3, at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Inner Mongolia. The rocket reached an altitude of 1,150 feet and landed within 7.9 feet of its target, marking a significant milestone for the company's goal of developing a reusable launch vehicle. Landspace aims to start flying the Zhuque-3 in 2025, with the rocket capable of carrying up to 40,350 pounds to low Earth orbit in reusable mode. Other Chinese companies, including iSpace, Galactic Energy, and Orienspace, are also working on developing reusable launch vehicles.
