NASA Links Global Sea Level Jump to El Niño and Warming Climate

NASA reports a significant 0.3-inch rise in global average sea levels from 2022 to 2023, attributing the increase to a strong El Nino and a warming climate. The analysis, based on over 30 years of satellite observations, shows an overall rise of around four inches since 1993, with an accelerating rate of increase. This trend suggests a potential 20-centimeter rise in global mean sea level by 2050, double the amount of change compared to the previous century, leading to more frequent and catastrophic flooding. The spike in sea levels is linked to the El Nino weather effect, but there is also a clear human impact evident in the underlying trend of acceleration.
