Unveiling Alien River Lifespans on Mars and Titan

Researchers have used spacecraft imagery to calculate the lifespans of rivers on Mars and Saturn's moon Titan. The dried-up channels on Mars and the active rivers on Titan provide valuable insights into the role rivers play in shaping planetary environments and potentially harboring signs of life. The study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, utilized equations originally designed for Earth's waterways to estimate flow rates on Mars and Titan. The findings suggest that rivers on Mars may have flowed for prolonged periods, potentially maintaining conditions favorable for life. The upcoming Dragonfly mission to Titan in the mid-2030s is expected to provide more data and improve our understanding of the moon.
