Ingenuity Helicopter Overcomes Communication Blackout and Spots Perseverance Rover on Mars

NASA's Mars helicopter, Ingenuity, survived a communications blackout for nearly a week after completing its 49th flight, due to challenging topology and occlusion effects from various parts of the rover. The team finally received a single radio acknowledgement from the helicopter on Sol 761, confirming that it was alive. Ingenuity then executed its 50th and 51st flights, covering over 300 meters and setting a new altitude record of 18 m. The helicopter's aerial images provided valuable information to rover planners and scientists about the area of interest in Mars' Jezero crater.
