NASA and IBM Release Open-Source AI to Map the Moon

NASA and IBM introduced the NASA-IBM Lunar Foundation Model, an open-source AI tool on Hugging Face designed to help scientists analyze the Moon’s data from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, including crater mapping, locating young volcanic features, and modeling water ice near the poles, accelerating exploration by turning vast lunar datasets into actionable insights.
