Five pivotal frames retell the Norman conquest in the Bayeux Tapestry
The BBC highlights five key scenes from the 70‑metre Bayeux Tapestry that narrate the Norman conquest: William arming Harold, Harold’s anguished oath to William, Harold’s later claim to the English throne, Halley’s Comet as a ominous omen, and Harold’s death by an arrow at Hastings (with ongoing debate about the arrow’s depiction). The tapestry, nearly 1,000 years old, has returned to England and will be displayed at the British Museum from 10 September 2026 to 11 July 2027.
