Record Colorado Bear Attacks: Teen Scratched in Bedroom, Camper Bitten in Tent
Two recent black bear attacks in Colorado, one involving a sleeping teenager and another a camper, have pushed the state's 2026 human-bear conflict count to a record 10. Wildlife officials attribute the surge to a severe drought that has depleted natural food sources, forcing bears to seek calories in human residences. While the camper suffered a puncture wound, the teenager was scratched on the stomach but protected by blankets. Authorities are currently searching for the bear that attacked the teen, which has also entered other homes, and are urging residents to secure trash and lock windows to prevent further incidents.
