DESI Releases Public 5.6 Trillion-Pixel Map Covering 75% of the Sky
Astronomers have released the largest three-dimensional map of the universe, containing 5.6 trillion pixels and cataloging approximately 4 billion celestial objects. The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) project, based in Arizona, spent five years compiling this data, which covers 75% of the sky. The map is now available through a free online tool, allowing the public to explore high-resolution images of galaxies, stars, and black holes. This release follows earlier 2D surveys and aims to help scientists understand dark energy, the force driving the universe's accelerated expansion.
