Greece and Israel Finalize €3B 'Achilles Shield' Air Defense Network
Israel and Greece signed a €3 billion defense agreement on August 31, 2026, to build a multi-layered air defense system known as 'Achilles Shield.' The deal, the largest in the history of bilateral relations, integrates David’s Sling, Barak MX, and SPYDER interceptors with Israeli radars and an AI-enabled command center. Greece aims to become the first EU nation to combine these platforms into a single national shield against ballistic missiles, aircraft, and drones. The agreement includes a supplementary €26 million package for drone-dome systems and involves 19 Greek companies in local production, with full operational readiness expected within 35 months.
