
DOE Launches $1.9B Grid Modernization Push to Lower Electric Bills
The U.S. Department of Energy announced about $1.9 billion in SPARK funding to accelerate grid upgrades, primarily reconductoring and other Advanced Transmission Technologies, to expand capacity, improve reliability, and reduce electricity costs for consumers; the program builds on the GRIP initiative, with concept papers due April 2, 2026, full applications due May 20, 2026, and selections anticipated in August 2026.
