ISS antenna swap set for spacewalk today by two astronauts

Two astronauts from NASA and ESA, Anil Menon and Sophie Adenot, are scheduled for a 6.5-hour spacewalk to replace a failed space-to-ground antenna on the International Space Station. The EVA is expected to start around 8:35 a.m. EDT on Aug. 25, 2026, and could include a backup task to replace a retroreflector on the Harmony module to improve navigation. Adenot becomes the first Frenchwoman to perform an EVA, while Menon will be on his third spacewalk. Coverage will be shown live via Space.com in partnership with NASA.

French spacewalker Adenot helps remove failed ISS antenna; replacement postponed

NASA astronaut Anil Menon and ESA's Sophie Adenot spent 6 hours 23 minutes outside the International Space Station to remove a failed Space-to-Ground antenna from the Z-1 truss; the crew successfully detached the faulty dish but were not able to install the replacement due to time, leaving the task for a future EVA and pending mission-control scheduling decisions. Adenot becomes France's first female spacewalker.

Valve Save in Space: Leonov's 1965 First EVA

Alexei Leonov became the first person to exit a spacecraft in 1965 during the Voskhod 2 mission, but his Berkut suit ballooned in vacuum, forcing him to vent air to fit back through the airlock; the risky maneuver highlighted the suit’s limits, preceded Ed White’s U.S. EVA by about three months, and underscored that spacewalking demands careful engineering and planning beyond courage.

Roscosmos cosmonauts set for five-hour ISS spacewalk

Two Russian cosmonauts, Sergei Kud-Sverchkov and Sergei Mikaev, will conduct a five-hour extravehicular activity outside the ISS to install a solar radiation experiment on the Zvezda module and remove hardware from Poisk and Nauka, with a possible photo of a Kurs antenna on Progress 94 if time allows. Coverage starts at 9:45 a.m. EDT (1345 GMT), with the EVA planned to begin around 10:15 a.m. EDT. Kud-Sverchkov has flown a spacewalk before, while Mikaev is on his first EVA; this is the second spacewalk of 2026.
