Nighttime Light Exposure Linked to Heart Remodeling and Increased Cardiovascular Risk
A large observational study finds that exposure to more than 3 lux of light during sleep is associated with structural changes in the heart, including thickened ventricular walls and reduced pumping efficiency. These changes, known as cardiac remodeling, are linked to higher long-term risks of heart failure, heart attack, and stroke. Experts recommend simple measures like blackout curtains and warm lighting to mitigate these risks.
