Russia Launches Massive Winter Energy Assault as Ukraine Advances in Lyman
Russia has initiated a massive strike campaign against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure ahead of the 2026-2027 winter, aiming to force capitulation through cold and darkness. On September 30, Russian forces launched nearly 190 drones and ballistic missiles, damaging key power plants in Kyiv and causing widespread outages. This aggressive push coincides with Ukrainian successes in Operation Vivaldi, which has reclaimed significant territory near Lyman and disrupted Russian plans to encircle the Donetsk Fortress Belt. While Moscow escalates aerial attacks to demoralize civilians, Kyiv continues long-range strikes on Russian oil and military assets, signaling a shift in the conflict’s dynamic.
