Rust and resilience: Lincoln shows wear after marathon deployment

The USS Abraham Lincoln arrived in Thailand after a marathon 286-day deployment at sea, and observers noted rust along the hull. Navy experts say surface rust on vessels spent long periods at sea is common, with about 30 days of dockside work typically needed to address it and prevent larger damage, though some upper-wulder areas can be treated underway. The voyage, which included combat operations in the Middle East and morale/supply strain reports, has also seen at least one crew member go overboard, reflecting broader challenges of extended deployments. Overall, the rust is seen as an expected consequence of the Lincoln’s lengthy at-sea duties rather than an immediate threat to its operation.

After the Highest GLP-1 Dose: How to Sustain Weight Loss

Even at the highest GLP-1 dose, weight loss and health improvements can continue with a shift from calorie restriction to quality nutrition (protein, vegetables, fiber, hydration), plus regular resistance training to preserve muscle. Patients should closely monitor weight, cravings, satiety, and key labs (such as A1c) so clinicians can intervene early. If needed, plans may include tapering or spacing doses, switching medications, or considering minimally invasive surgery, all within an active, personalized maintenance program with ongoing follow-up and goal-directed care.

Maintenance slip leaves light in Qantas jet wing; two-day cross-country flight ensues

Two days after maintenance, a battery-powered work light was signed out for a Qantas Airbus A380 and left inside the left wing, going unnoticed during post-maintenance checks. The aircraft flew from Sydney to Dallas/Fort Worth and back before the missing tool was found in an unreturned tool report. Investigators said there was no safety impact; Qantas has tightened tool-control procedures with a mandatory pre-clearance check. The ATSB notes a prior 2023 incident where a tool was left in an engine and a 2020 screwdriver tip caused damage elsewhere; no injuries were reported.

The Odyssey in IMAX 70mm: Keeping Giant, Ancient Projectors Alive

Only about 25 US theaters and roughly 45 worldwide can show The Odyssey in true IMAX 70mm, a rare, labor‑intensive feat that relies on aging projectors and scarce parts. The 70mm film runs horizontally at 1.43:1, delivering unparalleled brightness but requiring constant maintenance—from water‑cooling leaks and refurbished platters to PalmPilot-era controls now emulated on iPads and a Windows XP audio system being upgraded. Despite the challenges, audiences flock to the tangible, imperfect magic of film, though future expansion remains limited and dependent on technicians keeping these giants alive.

Maintenance bug triggers West US outage, disrupting Microsoft 365 and Azure

A bug in Microsoft's automated maintenance request system in the West US data center incorrectly marked additional network devices for maintenance, removing IP routes and causing a broad outage across Azure and Microsoft 365 services (including SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Admin Center, Power Automate, Copilot, and Loop). After rerouting traffic and rolling back the change, affected services recovered by 3:41 PM ET, and Microsoft is conducting a full internal review with a final post-incident report expected within about 14 days.

Missouri skydiving plane crash spotlights maintenance and safety

A Sunday skydiving-plane crash in Missouri involved a 2010 Pacific Aerospace 750XL operated by Skydive Kansas City. Despite skydiving’s overall strong safety record—about 3.47 million jumps with 16 fatalities last year—the incident underscores how maintenance issues and human factors can contribute to accidents, even with aircraft designed for short takeoffs and ample jump space.

Turbocharge Android in 10 Minutes, No Cost

The piece argues Android slowdowns stem from software clutter, not worse hardware, and offers a quick, 10-minute, zero-cost routine to restore speed: delete unused apps (via long-press or Play Store), prune old files with the preinstalled Files app (check Downloads and large items, move to cloud if needed), tweak home-screen settings (grid layout and launcher options) for a fresh feel, adjust device settings (e.g., enable dark mode to save battery), and review privacy/permissions to limit app access. Following these steps can make the device feel nearly as snappy as when it was new.
