NC Cyclospora cases stay unlinked as nationwide lettuce outbreak unfolds
Cyclospora outbreaks linked to shredded lettuce are reported in five states, but North Carolina cases have not yet been connected to Taco Bell lettuce; the source remains under investigation as experts note the parasite’s long incubation (2–14 days) and reliance on memory makes tracing difficult. Wake County has seen about 270 cases overall, with parsley, cilantro, and lettuce among commonly reported foods. Taylor Farms is removing lettuce; health officials caution that most fresh produce is currently not linked to the outbreak.
