Xona readies a 258-satellite Pulsar network for centimeter-precision PNT from space

Xona Space Systems aims to deploy a 258-satellite Pulsar constellation in low-Earth orbit to deliver GPS-like PNT with signals up to 100 times stronger than traditional GNSS, enabling centimeter-level positioning and robust timing even indoors or in jammed areas. Six production satellites are planned for launch in Oct 2026 with commercial service starting in 2027, building on Pulsar-0’s 2025 flight and live jamming tests. The system is designed to work with existing L1/L5 receivers, and Xona is rolling out a Pulsar Verified program to onboard hardware partners, while competitors like TrustPoint pursue similar LEO-PNT efforts.

Starlink drops GPS-style PNT feature, but researchers aren’t done with space-based navigation

Starlink has shut down its GPS-like positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) capability as of May 20, 2026, ending a peripheral feature that could offer location data even where GPS is jammed. SpaceX did not give a reason, fueling speculation about liability or a paid-service path ahead of an IPO. Independent researchers have already shown how Starlink signals can be exploited to determine location—with tens of seconds to meters-level accuracy—and have extended similar techniques to include OneWeb and other LEO constellations, suggesting robust GPS alternatives may emerge even after Starlink’s own PNT access is closed.

TrustPoint's PNT Cubesat Takes Off

TrustPoint has launched its first satellite, a cubesat-based global navigation satellite system, on the SpaceX Transporter-7 rideshare flight. The startup aims to establish a proliferated constellation in low-Earth orbit to offer global PNT data at a fraction of the cost of a single GPS block three satellites. TrustPoint has won Small Business Innovation Research contracts from the US Air Force and the US Space Force to help solve the problem of GPS interference and jamming.
