Curiosity Discovers Vast Honeycomb Terrain in Martian Valle Grande
NASA’s Curiosity Mars rover captured a 360‑degree panorama of a vast honeycomb‑textured field in Valle Grande—the largest patch of polygonal fractures NASA has found on Mars—each polygon about 1.5 to 3 inches wide. Scientists are analyzing their shapes and chemistry to understand how they formed and what they reveal about Mars’ watery past, with the texture spanning outward in all directions in a panorama captured on sols 4,930–4,931.
