Camry Brake Bonanza: RockAuto Deal Beats Local Parts Stores

A Toyota Camry Solara owner discovers a RockAuto wholesaler closeout deal offering a full front and rear brake pads and rotors for just over $122 including shipping, far cheaper than the roughly $50 per rotor price at Advance Auto Parts; the article explains RockAuto's online-only model, its breadth of manufacturers, and the tradeoffs of lower prices (shipping from multiple warehouses and potentially tougher returns) versus the convenience of local stores, noting DIY implications for car owners.

NASA tests Mars rotors at Mach 1.08 to power next-gen SkyFall helicopters

NASA and AeroVironment tested two Mars-bound rotor systems in JPL’s Mars simulator, reaching rotor tip speeds up to Mach 1.08 (about 3,750 rpm) under simulated Martian conditions—surpassing Mars’ speed of sound and signaling feasibility for larger SkyFall rotorcraft that could carry bigger instruments and longer missions, building on Ingenuity’s historic Mars flights.

Gears Without Teeth: Fluid Flows Spin Rotors in a Noncontact Engine

NYU researchers demonstrate fluid-driven gear-like coupling: two submerged rotors in a glycerol–water mix generate motion in a passive rotor via controlled liquid flows. By adjusting distance and rotation speed, the system can mimic interlocking gears (opposite directions) or belt-and-pulley systems (same direction), offering a tunable, noncontact alternative to traditional gears.
